Delivered by Speakers Trust, funded by The Kusuma Trust, Culturally Speaking is a programme aimed at 13-16 year olds, seeking to expand their knowledge and understanding of cultural spaces, develop their communication skills and encourage them to share their views through public speaking. Working in partnership with cultural venues across London, young people visit a cultural venue and then participate in a communication skills workshop at school, delivered by expert public-speaking trainers. Through the workshop, they explore the themes and ideas encountered during their visit, before delivering a three-minute speech inspired by this.
This is the first year we are delivering this programme funded by The Kusuma Trust, and we are so proud to be able to present an event of this calibre, to discover students’ learnings and showcase their voices!
Around 12 young people from the programme will be selected to represent their school and deliver their speech at one of our most prestigious cultural venues, St Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey. Come and join the audience for this inaugural event and listen to exciting speeches featuring a myriad of themes, inspired by some of the amazing cultural venues in our capital city.
Thank you to our partner cultural sites for partnering with us to bring this programme to a new audience and give young people such a valuable opportunity: Westminster Abbey, Saatchi Gallery, Wallace Collection, Charles Dickens Museum, Black Cultural Archives, London Transport Museum – Depot, Kensington Palace, and the Imperial War Museum.
