Young Peoples Academy Speakers- Paid Opportunity

The Young Peoples Academy is looking for individuals to become part of their diverse group of people who use their own experiences of health and social care to improve services for themselves and for others.

  1. As ad-hoc Speakers and Presenters – University courses often present the opportunity for young people to tell their lived experience stories, whether as a patient or carer, and to change the practice of current and future health & social care professionals. These are paid opportunities, open to students between the ages of 13-25.
  2. As Employees – Three 18–25-year-olds to join the team as Young People’s Academy members. A paid at the University’s Grade 5 and Grade 6 scales (£120-150 per day) on a flexible contract, they will be able to engage in all of their work on university courses (through the Course Cluster Standing Groups) and research projects (through the Research Standing Groups).
  3. In public engagement sessions – A selection of debate, critical thinking, and storytelling workshops and lectures. These will be free-to-attend social sessions for people to find out about the Young People’s Academy, issues in Health and Social Care, and to build useful soft skills.

About Young Peoples Academy:The People’s Academy and Young People’s Academy are part of the Health Systems Innovation Lab at London South Bank University. They bring together a diverse group of people who use their own experiences of health and social care to improve services for themselves and for others. They form a committed group of activists determined to shift the emphasis within the NHS from one in which patients are passive recipients of care to one in which they are effective collaborators in their own care and play a central role in all healthcare quality improvement. Their aims are:

  • Sustainable healthcare for everyone in the UK
  • An improved understanding of health and well-being
  • Citizens involved in every aspect of the NHS and health policy decisions

The People’s Academy and Young People’s Academy collaborate to inform government, shape policy, assist recruitment, develop quality health and care services, support health and care leaders in co-production, and improve perceptions and understanding. The People’s Academy and Young People’s Academy are essential resources of first-hand knowledge helping to shape the future well-being of our nation.
